Factors that accelerate skin aging

Your skin evolves throughout your life. It reflects your lifestyle, your environment and your inner balance. Certain factors accelerate its premature aging, but it is possible to take action to preserve it.

  • Tobacco: smoking 10 cigarettes per day ages the skin by an average of 10 years. Tobacco reduces cell oxygenation and alters collagen and elastin production, making the skin thinner and more marked.
  • Food: a diet rich in refined sugar and ultra-processed food favors inflammation and oxidative stress, which accelerates skin aging. On the contrary, antioxidants, healthy fats, and vitamins support cell regeneration.
  • Excessive sun exposure: UVB and UVA rays directly damage the DNA of skin cells, accelerate collagen degradation and favor the appearance of pigment spots. A daily sun protection is essential to limit these effects.
  • Lack of sleep: at night, skin regenerates. Insufficient sleep reduces the production of collagen and elastin, leading to a dull complexion and a loss of firmness.
  • Extreme temperatures: cold weakens the skin barrier and reduces hydration, while excessive heat favors dilated pores and inflammation. Avoiding thermal shocks helps preserve your skin balance.
  • Pollution: thin particles and environmental toxins generate oxidative stress, which weakens the skin and accelerates aging. Appropriate cleansing and antioxidants can limit these effects.
  • Chronic stress: increases the production of cortisol, a hormone that accelerates collagen degradation and favors skin disorders such as acne, eczema and psoriasis.
  • Dehydration: insufficiently moisturized skin loses its suppleness and radiance. Water, combined with essential fatty acids (omega 3 and 6), helps maintain a protective skin barrier.
  • Hormonal imbalances: a decrease in estrogen as age increases leads to a loss of elasticity and moisture. An appropriate check-up can help identify these imbalances and provide a targeted treatment.
